An episiotomy is a surgical incision through the perineum to enlarge the vagina and assist childbirth.
Care for an episiotomy;
1. immediately after deliver, ice (wrap in towel or plastic bag) to the perineum will numb the area, decrease the swelling and pain.
2. always wash the area wih warm water or medicated lotion as prescribed by doctor each time you go to the toilet.
3. after 24 hrs, a sit2 bath is a warm water bath used for healing or cleaning purposes. you sit in the bath (5 minute 3 time a day work better). the water covers only the hips and buttocks. the water may contain medication.
4. if there is severe pain or redness around the stitches, see a doctor.
